Wrestling's Schultz Named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week

Feb 17, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – As announced by the Pac-12 Conference on Wednesday, redshirt freshman Cohlton Schultz has been named Pac-12 Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his Sun Devil career after his performances over the weekend against No. 13 Iowa State and Northern Iowa.

Schultz, ranked No. 5 by WIN Magazine, wrestled arguably his most complete weekend of the season as he went 2-0, knocking off two top-10 opponents to end the regular season undefeated with 10 victories.

On Sunday, the Parker, Colorado, native's match against No. 5 Gannon Gremmel would be the ISU dual's deciding factor. Schultz's overtime-win by an escape point gave the Sun Devils a 20-15 victory over the Cyclones and was his second career top-10 victory.

Later in the afternoon Schultz closed out the showing against UNI's heavyweight wrestler No. 6 Carter Isley. The Sun Devil earned a quick takedown to lead the bout and went on to defeat Isley with a 4-0 decision.

Wins over the Cyclones and Panthers solidified ASU's undefeated regular season with six wins and marked the program's first undefeated season since 1975-76.

Schultz wraps up his first year of dual competition in the Maroon and Gold with a 10-0 record and two wins by fall.

Next up, ASU will have 12 days off before heading to compete in the Pac-12 Championships in Corvallis, Oregon on Sunday, February 28. Live coverage information on Pac-12 Networks will be announced ahead of the event, with additional coverage of the four-day event across Pac-12.com and the Pac-12 Now app.
