Husky Rally Falls Short In First Loss

Feb 19, 2021

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The #2 Washington Huskies fell 8-5 to the Nevada Wolf Pack in a wild back-and-forth game Friday. Lilly Agan had two hits in her first collegiate start. Baylee Klingler and Jadelyn Allchin each hit solo home runs as well. Sis Bates and Sami Reynolds had RBI doubles in the sixth inning.

The loss was Washington's first of the year, putting the team's record at 6-1 with three more games to play this weekend.

The Huskies immediately mounted a rally after Nevada took its first lead of the game in the fifth inning, but couldn't quite pull back ahead. Washington would score three runs in the final two innings.

Kelley Lynch struck out eight in her four innings of work. That included multiple strikeouts in every inning she pitched. Brooke Nelson, Pat Moore, and Gabbie Plain finished out the game's final three innings.

  • Third Inning: Allchin launched a solo home run for Washington's first hit of the day, giving the Huskies the lead.
  • Fourth Inning: With the bases loaded, Nevada knocked a double to leftfield, tying the game up at 2-2.
  • Fifth Inning: Nevada's first three batters reached safely as it gained the lead for the first time. In all, Nevada would score four runs on four hits to make it 6-2.
  • Sixth Inning: The Husky rally started immediately, with four hits in a row cutting the deficit to one run. Bates and Reynolds had back-to-back RBI doubles, with Reynolds driving in two.
  • Sixth Inning: The seesaw game continued with Nevada once again striking quickly. Nevada added two more runs in the bottom half to stretch its lead to 8-5.
  • Allchin (1x3, R, HR, RBI) matched her freshman year home run total in 18 fewer games.
  • Allchin did not have an extra-base hit in her first nine career games. Since that time, 44% of her hits have gone for extra bases.
  • Klingler (2x3, 2 R, HR, RBI) hit her fifth homer of the year and second single of the year.
  • Lynch (4.0 IP, 8 K) has recorded multiple strikeouts in 11 of her 13 innings pitched.
  • Reynolds (1x3, 2B, 2 RBI) has two extra-base hits and four RBI in the last three games.
  • Bates (1x3, 2B, RBI) has now driven in at least one run in five straight games, one off her career-long six-game RBI streak, set in 2018.

Washington plays one game tomorrow, against Utah State at 3:00 pm PT. There will be no video stream for that game.
