PALM DESERT, Calif. – Oregon battled through difficult scoring conditions to move into a tie for second place at 1 under after 36 holes following a 10 over second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club on Saturday. The Ducks head into the final round four shots behind leader Georgia Tech while all five Oregon starters sit inside the top 30 individually with 18 holes to play.

"The guys battled in difficult conditions again," said head coach Casey Martin. "On the back nine the winds picked up to an extreme level and we were tested. But we have a chance tomorrow to jump start our season. The boys will be ready."

How It Happened: Craig Ronne shot the low round of the day for the Ducks, turning in an even-par 72 to remain at 2 over for the tournament. He got off to a solid start, making two birdies in the first four holes on the way to being 2 under through six. He gave one back with a bogey at the seventh, but got back to 2 under at the turn with a birdie at the par-5 ninth. Ronne dropped back over par with three bogeys on the tougher closing nine, but got back to even with a birdie at the par-5 18th.

Owen Avrit battled his way to a 2-over 74 and Yuki Moriyama to a 3-over 75 as the next two counting scores for the Ducks. Avrit played steady on the front nine with three birdies and a bogey to go out in 2 under, before shooting a 4-over 40 on the back nine. Moriyama turned in a similar round, shooting even on the front with just a birdie and a bogey to go with seven pars, but carded a 3-over 39 on the back.

Nate Stember shot a 4-over 76, steadying the ship after a 5 over front nine to shoot 1 under coming home with a birdie and eight pars. Tom Gueant also shot a 76 but still leads the Ducks overall in a tie for 13th at 1 under for the tournament.
