PALM DESERT, Calif. – Oregon turned in its best finish of the 2021 season, coming in tied for fourth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, shooting 1 under in the final round Sunday at the Classic Club. Tom Gueant turned in his third career top-10 finish, placing tied for eighth at 3 under for the tournament while the Ducks finished 2 under as a team on the weekend.

How It Happened: Gueant made back-to-back birdies to start his round, but immediately gave both shots back with a double bogey at three. He bogeyed the par-3 sixth to go along with five pars to 1 over on the front nine. The third-year sophomore would catch fire down the stretch, though, making four birdies in the final six holes in addition to a bogey to shoot 3 under on the back nine and end his day 2 under.

Yuki Moriyama also finished strong, shooting a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 13th. He got to 2 under early on with birdies at three and four, but followed with consecutive bogeys at No. 6 and 7 and was even through 11 holes. After a bogey at the par-4 13th dropped him to 1 over on the round, he eagled the par-5 14th to get back under par before a birdie at No. 18 got him back to 2 under.

Nate Stember shot a 1-over 73 to finish the weekend tied for 26th at 2 over. He was 2 over after 12 holes but took advantage of the two par-5s on the back nine, making birdies there before closing with a birdie at the par-4 first. Owen Avrit turned in a 2-over 74, going on a stretch of four birdies in five holes on the back nine, finishing tied for 39th for the tournament. Craig Ronne placed tied for 52nd after a final round 4-over 76.
