Stanford Falls at UCLA
LOS ANGELES – In action for the second-straight day, No. 19 Stanford dropped a pair of matches at No. 2 UCLA, Saturday, at Mapes Beach.
The Cardinal (1-3) gave the Bruins (2-0) all they could handle in the opening match. Maddie Dailey and Amelia Smith, playing in the No. 4 spot, got Stanford on the board first with a 21-18, 21-16 straight set win over Rileigh Powers and Jaden Whitmarsh.
Stanford's No. 2 pair, freshmen Xolani Hodel and Kate Reilly, pushed the Bruins' Devon Newberry and Lindsey to a third set, but fell short. All three sets were decided by just two points.
UCLA was victorious at the No. 1 and No. 5 pairs to clinch the win. Stanford's Maya Harvey and Maddi Kriz turned in a 21-17, 21-19 win over Megan Muret and Jacqueline Quade in the No. 3 spot.
The Bruins swept the Cardinal in the second match of the doubleheader.
Stanford closes out the weekend at No. 10 Pepperdine on Sunday. Action begins at 11 a.m. in Malibu.
