SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Stanford women's golf set the school record for a 36-hole start to par, firing a 20-under 556 on the first day of the Gunrock Invitational at Del Paso Country Club. At 9-under, freshman Rachel Heck shares the lead with 18 more holes to play on Tuesday.
As a team, the Cardinal fired identical 10-under 278s in both rounds on Monday to take a commanding lead into Tuesday's final round. San Jose State sits in second place at 7-under, 13 strokes off the Stanford margin.
Individually, Heck leads a plethora of Cardinal inside the top 13. All five scoring Cardinal, and seven of eight competing, are tied for 13th or better. Heck fired a flawless 5-under 67 in Monday's morning round with five birdies, followed up by a 4-under 68 with five more birdies in the afternoon. Brooke Seay matched Heck's morning 67 with an afternoon 67 of her own. Seay tallied six birdies in the afternoon after three in the morning.
Freshmen Sadie Englemann is tied for eighth at 3-under, while Rebecca Becht, playing as an individual is tied for 10th with teammate Aline Krauter at 2-under. Angelina Ye and Ziyi Wang both sit tied for 13th at 1-under.
