Emily White Named Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week

Mar 2, 2021

2020-21 Awards and Honors For Sun Devil Athletics

SAN FRANCISCO – Emily White is this week's Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week after a standout performance last week for No. 7 Sun Devil Gymnastics, her second conference weekly award of the season.

With this nod, Arizona State has won six Pac-12 weekly awards this season, the most in a single season in program history. For White, this is her second weekly nod, the first being a Pac-12 Coaches Choice of the Week win on February 16. This is the third freshman/newcomer of the week honor for ASU, with Sarah Clark winning the first two.

White had her best performance with the Sun Devils in the win over the Wildcats on February 24. She won the event titles on bars (9.925) and beam (9.900), earning career highs on both of those events. Those were also her first two individual wins of her career and the meet was her first time reaching and surpassing the 9.900 mark. Additionally, she has not scored below a 9.800 for four-straight meets on vault and beam.

White and the Gym Devils are coming off a fantastic week, scoring two major team scores of 197.450 and 197.050, ninth and 14th in program history, in wins over Arizona at home and at Washington. The strong showings were just in time for the NQS (National Qualifying Score) rankings to start on Road to Nationals. Arizona State jumped up to No. 7 in the national rankings with an NQS of 197.075. Due to the odd COVID season, the NQS this season is made up of the average of a team's top four scores (two home, two road/neutral).
