No. 9 Volleyball Downs Stanford 3-1

SALT LAKE CITY – The No. 9 Utah volleyball team earned a four-set win (25-14, 25-17, 17-25, 25-22) over the Stanford Cardinal in the Huntsman Center on Friday, Mar. 5.
 
It's the third time in program history that Utah has beaten Stanford and just the second time since joining the Pac-12 in 2011.
 
The Utes were led by Dani Drews, who finished with 30 kills hitting .348. She also had eight digs and three service aces. This was her second 30-kill match this season and fifth of her career. It's the second time she has had 30 kills in a four-set match in her career.
 
Utah got off to a quick start winning the first two sets going away. The Utes hit .321 and .355 to open up the 2-0 lead.
 
Trailing 2-0, Stanford battled back getting a 10-4 lead early in the third set. Utah pulled within two three different times, but the Cardinal went on a 4-0 run to go back up 19-13 ending any chances for Utah to get the sweep.
 
In the fourth set, Utah held an early 10-6 lead, but the Cardinal battled back once again tying the score at 17. The Utes rode the hot hand coming down the stretch and Drews got three crucial kills late in the fourth set to give Utah the victory.
 
The win moves Utah to 9-2 on the season.
 
Saige Ka'aha'aina-Torres had 49 assists, nine digs and 4.0 blocks.
 
Vanessa Ramirez led the team in digs with 13.
 
Madelyn Robinson was the other Utah player with double-figure kills finishing with 12, while hitting a team-leading .474. Megan Yett also had a good match posting seven kills and 11 digs.
 
Utah and Stanford will play one more match this weekend on Sunday, March 7 at 12 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.
