Cougs End Day One at Bandon Dunes

BANDON, Ore. – The Washington State men's golf team had a pair of golfers finish even par in the first round of action at the Bandon Dunes Championship on Sunday, March 7, in Bandon, Oregon. The Cougars enter tomorrow's second round in a tie for 10th place after carding seven-over-par as a team in the first round.

Fifth-year senior Nicklaus Chiam and graduate senior Eric Hagen each posted a first-round score of 71 to sit in a tie for 20th on the player leaderboard. Chiam tied for the team lead in birdies with freshman Jaden Cantafio in Sunday's first round with four each. Meanwhile, Hagen shot an even-par on 16 of his 18 holes.

After one round of play, Washington State sits in a tie with Seattle U. for 10th on the team leaderboard with a score of 291 (+7). Utah and San Francisco are tied for the team lead, as the Utes and Dons each carded 10-under par; 274 in the first round.

Junior Max Sekulic finished his day inside the top-40 of the player leaderboard, as his score of two-over par; 73 puts him in a tie for 37th going into tomorrow's action. Sophomore Pono Yanagi carded 76 (+5) in the first round, while Cantafio finished the first round of the Bandon Dunes Championship one-stroke behind Yanagi. Sophomore Yuya Eguchi, who is playing this tournament as an individual, carded 78 (+7) to end his day in a tie for 78th overall.

Second round action of the Bandon Dunes Championship gets underway Monday, March 8. Tee-time is set for 8:30 a.m. PT at the Bandon Trails Golf Club.
