USC Women’s Tennis Did Not Finish Match Versus UC Santa Barbara Due To Rain

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--The No. 21 USC women's tennis team was leading its match against UC Santa Barbara 3-1 today (Mar. 12) in Santa Barbara, Calif., but was forced to stop play due to rain. Although the Trojans were winning, the match will not count as a win or a loss. The Women of Troy continue to hold a 7-4 overall record.
 
The Trojans entered the match with laser focus and made the first move of the day as Dvorak/Willson beat Kiss/Gonzalez 6-4 on court three. USC's Cayetano/Cheong beat Gaucho pair Volodko/Sentenac 6-3 on court one to claim the doubles point for the Trojans. The play on court two was suspended after the doubles clinch. 
 
USC held onto the momentum from doubles and took it into singles. USC redshirt senior Summer Dvorak defeated Gaucho Kira Reuter on court five 6-3, 6-3 to push the Trojans' overall score to 2-0. 
 
On court two, Trojan freshman Naomi Cheong won her match 6-3, 6-3 over UC Santa Barbara's Camille Kiss to notch another point for the Women of Troy. 
 
The Gauchos hadn't given up and put their first point on the board as Shakhnoza Khatamova defeated USC junior Salma Ewing 6-3, 6-4 on court three. USC led the match 3-1. 
 
After the conclusion of court three's match, the rain began to fall and conditions never improved. USC and Santa Barbara were forced to stop play and end the match. 
 
USC will return to Marks Stadium on Sunday (Mar. 14) to challenge No. 4 Pepperdine for the third time this season. The match will begin at 12 p.m. PT.
