MESA, Ariz. – Returning to the course just three days after completing its home tournament, Arizona Women's Golf didn't let the quick turnaround slow down their scoring on the first day of the Clover Cup as the Wildcats finished in first place after the opening round. Senior Yu-Sang Hou led Arizona with a 4-under round of 68 to place second after the first round.

Hou's 4-under open to the tournament came off a blistering back nine that saw her make five birdies and four pars. Behind Hou was a trio of 1-under rounds of 71 from Vivian Hou, Ya Chun Chang and Gile Bite Starkute who all finished in a tie for 10th among the field. Sophomore Therese Warner's 1-over, 73, gave Arizona a fifth lineup member in the top 20 on the individual leaderboards.

The round of 71 from Chang was an impressive start for the junior playing in her first collegiate tournament of the season after returning from an amateur event in her homeland of Taiwan.

Freshman Maya Benita, competing as an individual for the Wildcats, also opened the event with a strong opening round of 71, marking the lowest round of her young career.

The Wildcats will look to defend their two-stroke lead over UNLV and five-stroke edge over Houston as well as the rest of the 12-team field on the second of three days on Saturday.
