Clayton, Bonneau Sweep Pac-12 Weekly Honors

Lacrosse Overpowers Cal with Balanced Offense | Carley Adams Named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week (3/8) | 2020-21 Awards and Honors For Sun Devil Athletics

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Sun Devil Lacrosse swept the Pac-12 Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, the conference announced.
Kerri Clayton was selected as the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career, while Berkeley Bonneau earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week distinction for the third time as well. Arizona State has now had eight individuals received the top weekly conference honor in Head Coach Tim McCormack's two seasons, after previously only winning the award three times in the two prior seasons.

"It's always good to get recognition, but we still have one focus. Playing Sun Devil Lacrosse," Coach McCormack stated. "This means playing as a team and enjoying every minute we have together. We are excited to get back out there tomorrow."

The dynamic duo was a big reason why Sun Devil Lacrosse defeated California on the road, 21-11, to earn their first Pac-12 Conference win of the season. Behind the strength of a 14-2 run, Arizona State overwhelmed the Golden Bears defense with a variety of offensive threats.
By the end of the afternoon, 11 different Sun Devils accounted for the 21 goals, with the opposition unable to contain the multitude of options. The unselfishness and talent of the Sun Devils' attacking unit was on full display, as 12 of the 21 goals were assisted.
Arizona State controlled the midfield, finishing a perfect 20-for-20 on clear attempts while limiting Cal to just 13-of-17. The pressure defense applied by the Maroon & Gold forced Cal to commit 16 turnovers.
Berkeley Bonneau – Defensive Player of the Week
Berkeley Bonneau enjoyed another incredible week in net, finishing with 21 saves over the two games in the Bay Area. She recorded her 28th career double-digit save outing in the loss to Stanford, keeping the Sun Devils close with a 13-save performance.
She was equally as sharp in the win over Cal, making eight saves and frustrating the Golden Bears' offense. Bonneau and the Sun Devil defense allowed only one Cal goal in a 26-minute stretch, helping Coach McCormack's squad establish a lead they would never relinquish.

While she wasn't tested often, she came up big when her team needed her, making several timely stops.

"Berkeley continues to be our backbone," Coach McCormack remarked. "When we have breakdowns she has been there to bail us out which is huge for the confidence of the team. Her ability to get the ball out and up field quickly has also helped produce goals at the other end in transition."

Kerri Clayton – Offensive Player of the Week
Kerri Clayton compiled 10 points over the two games in the Bay Area, showing off her ability to pass and score. The attacker finished with five goals and five assists, proving to be a threat in a variety of ways.
In the victory over Cal, she led the way for the Sun Devil offense with a vintage performance, recording seven points (four goals and three assists). Clayton was also causing havoc in the midfield with her pursuit and ride. She accounted for seven or more points for the eighth time in her career. She now has four or more goals in 14 career games.

"Kerri had a solid weekend," Coach McCormack observed. "Not only did she produce but her movement without the ball and ability to get teammates open was just as impactful. She and the rest of the attack are doing an excellent job taking ownership in the system. They are playing free and having fun."
