Pac-12 Release

SAN FRANCISCO – Abbey Forbes of the UCLA women's tennis team was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for March 8-14, the conference announced Tuesday.

Forbes knocked off the nation's No. 1 player, Ashley Lahey of Pepperdine, in the fifth-ranked Bruins' 4-3 loss to the No. 4 Waves. The 6-1, 6-4 showing on the top court improved Forbes' singles record this season to 9-1, a mark that has been achieved playing exclusively against nationally-ranked foes. Of those nine wins, eight have come in straight sets.

Forbes and partner Jada Hart did not finish their doubles match, but led Jessica Failla and Shiori Fukuda by a 5-2 score on the top court when the initial point was secured. Forbes possesses a 4-0 doubles mark.

The award marks the second such in the career of Forbes, who was previously honored Feb. 25, 2020, and 33rd all time for the UCLA women's tennis program. Hart (Feb. 11) and Elysia Bolton (Feb. 4) have also been recognized this season.

ALSO NOMINATED: Lauryn John-Baptiste, ASU; Jada Bui, CAL; Janice Tjen, ORE; Vanessa Wong, WASH; Savanna Ly-Nguyen, WSU.
