Ute Women's Tennis Falls To No. 5 UCLA

LOS ANGELES – The Utes started off this weekend's road Pac-12 matches with a tough matchup against No. 5-ranked UCLA, where the Utes fell to the Bruins 7-0. The Utes looked towards singles to catch up after falling in doubles, but ultimately dropped the match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.  

During doubles play, the Utes put up a challenge, but dropped the point. On court two, Anastasia Goncharova and Anya Lamoreaux fell to their opponents 6-2. Soon after, their teammates on court three, Lindsay Hung and Jasmine Rich, were also defeated by the UCLA duo, 6-1, awarding the Bruins with their first point. Madeline Lamoreaux and Emily Dush battled it out with UCLA's No. 1 duo to the wire, but came up just short 7-5.

While the Utes were hopeful to catch up during singles play, the Utes dropped all singles matches against the ranked squad. On court six, Olivia Mikkelson fell to her opponent 6-1, 6-1 for the second point. Soon after, UCLA's Abi Altick defeated Hung 6-2, 6-4 on court three and A. Lamoreaux was downed by Vanessa Ong from UCLA, 6-0, 6-3 on court five to clinch the win.

UCLA's No. 113-ranked Sasha Vagramov took the upper hand against Dush, for a score of 6-1, 6-1 on court two. On court one, Lamoreaux also fell to No. 19-ranked Jada Hart after a tough match, 6-0, 7-6 (7-3). Lastly, Goncharova fell 6-4, 6-1 to UCLA 's Vivian Wolff on court four.

The Utes will continue Pac-12 play finishing out the weekend in Los Angeles. On Sunday, Mar. 20, the Utes will compete against the USC Trojans at the Marks Tennis Stadium at 1 p.m. MT before heading back to Salt Lake four a couple of home matches.
