No. 24 USC Women’s Tennis Sweeps Utah 7-0

LOS ANGELES--The No. 24 USC women's tennis team swept Utah 7-0 today (Mar. 20) at Marks Stadium. This victory put the cap on a perfect weekend after USC swept Colorado yesterday (Mar. 19) 4-0 at home. The Women of Troy now hold a 9-5 overall record and a 3-1 Pac-12 record for the 2021 season. 
 
The Trojans came in hot in doubles as Dvorak/Willson put up a quick 6-1 win over Utah's Hung /Rich on court three. Shortly thereafter, Cayetano/Cheong defeated Ute pair M. Lamoreaux/Dush 6-1 on court one to claim the doubles point. Although Troy had clinched the doubles point, the remaining court was played out. USC's Ewing/McKee beat Utah's A. Lamoreaux /Goncharova 6-4 to execute a Trojan doubles sweep. 
 
USC held a 1-0 lead entering singles. Trojan freshman No. 103 Naomi Cheong nabbed the first singles point of the day with her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Utah's Emily Dush on court two. On the next court over, USC sophomore No. 48 Eryn Cayetano swiftly defeated Ute Madeline Lamoreaux 6-1, 6-2 to extend Troy's lead to 3-0. 
 
For the second day in a row, USC redshirt senior Clare McKee clinched for the Women of Troy. Her 6-2, 6-3 victory over Utah's Madison Tattini on court six secured the match for Troy. This is McKee's fourth clinch of the 2021 season. 
 
Although USC had clinched the match, the remaining courts were played out. 
 
On court five, Trojan redshirt senior Summer Dvorak defeated Ute Anya Lamoreaux 6-1, 6-2 to extend USC's lead to 4-0. 
 
USC junior Salma Ewing battled back from losing her first set 6-4 against Utah's Lindsay Hung on court three to win her next two sets 6-1, 6-4 to notch another point for the Trojans.
 
In the last match of the day, Trojan junior Danielle Willson battled in a 10-point tiebreak set to win her match 4-6, 7-6(3), 1-0 (10-7) over Utah's Anastasia Goncharova on court four. This victory locked down USC's perfect 7-0 sweep. 
 
Next week, the Women of Troy travel to Eugene, Ore. to take on the Oregon Ducks on Friday (Mar. 26) at 1:30 p.m. PT in their only match of the week.
