CORVALLIS, Oregon - Oregon State scored four runs in the bottom of the first, and that proved to be the difference as the Beavers defeated California, 4-3, in the Pac-12 opening series finale Sunday afternoon from the OSU Sports Complex.

The Golden Bears fell to 12-7, 1-2 on the year. Oregon State took three out of four in the series and two out of three among the conference games played in the series.

Cal got on the board in the first inning. The Bears loaded the bases after Makena Smith and Cameron Kondo singled and Sona Halajian walked. Making her first career start, Alexis Bishop gained a free pass, allowing Smith to cross home plate. Bishop also doubled later in the game.

The Beavers responded in the bottom of the first with four runs to take a 4-1 lead.

Cal clawed back in the top of the fourth when Tatum Anzaldo belted her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to right-center that cut the OSU lead down to 4-3.

Haylei Archer (5-1) pitched her second straight complete game of the weekend - third of 2021 - allowing four runs on six hits, three walks and one strikeout.

Sabrina Nunez doubled to account for Cal's third extra base hit of the day.

The Bears return to Berkeley to host No. 2 UCLA in the Pac-12 home opener on Friday, March 26, at 2 p.m. from Levine-Fricke Field.
