Huskies Put Up Biggest Pac-12 Win Of Year

Mar 28, 2021

TEMPE, Ariz. – The #6 Washington Huskies handed the #14 Arizona State Sun Devils their worst loss since 2019, rolling to an 11-1 run-rule victory in five innings.  Washington hit four homers for the second game in a row while allowing only five baserunners. The win moves Washington to 24-4 on the year and 3-2 in Pac-12 play.

It was the first time Washington had scored 10+ runs in back-to-back games against Pac-12 foes since 2019. Washington has had its highest-scoring and second-highest-scoring games against Arizona State this weekend. The ten-run win was Washington's biggest Pac-12 win since defeating Oregon 14-2 in 2019.

Baylee Klinger, Sami Reynolds, Morganne Flores, and Noelle Hee all homered, with Klingler and Flores homering for the second game in a row. Hee and Sis Bates each had three-hit days. Eight different Huskies scored runs in the game. Washington scored four batters into the game and had runs in four of the five innings, only being held off the board in the fifth inning when the game was already 11-0.

Gabbie Plain made it 18 consecutive starts without a loss, improving to 14-0 on the season. Plain reached the 100 IP mark today in her 11th complete game of 2021. She struck out six batters, allowing four hits.

  • First Inning: Three of Washington's first four batters reached, capped off by an RBI single from Flores.
  • Second Inning: Two errors by Arizona State gifted the Huskies a run to make it 2-0. Washington's power bats took advantage of the mistakes: Klingler and Reynolds went back-to-back soon thereafter, making it 6-0.
  • Third Inning: Hee's two-run bomb ended Arizona State's starter's day and pushed the lead to 8-0.
  • Fourth Inning: The home runs just kept coming for the Dawgs: this time, it was Flores with a three-run moon shoot to make it 11-0.
  • Fifth Inning: Arizona State's only run came via a solo home run.

  • Bates (3x4, 2 R) passed Becky Newbry for fourth in Washington history in hits with her 287th.
  • Bates is now on a five-game hit streak, her third hit streak of 5+ games this year.
  • Klingler (1x3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI) has doubled her career home run total in 27 games this year.
  • Reynolds (1x3, HR) hit the 15th home run of her career.
  • In her last eight starts, Hee (3x3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) has six runs, five homers, and six RBI.
  • Flores (2x3, R, HR, 4 RBI) has three runs, four extra-base hits, and eight RBI in six games against Pac-12 opponents.
  • Flores has four multi-hit games in the last five, hitting .571 in that time.
  • Washington has now hit four homers in back-to-back games for the first time since 2005.
  • Plain (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 K) has struck out at least six batters in all 17 appearances of 3.0+ innings and at least seven in all but one start.
