Four GymDawgs Head To Regionals

Mar 30, 2021

SEATTLE – Four Washington GymDawgs head to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete in the NCAA Regionals on Friday, April 2 at 6:00 pm PT. Skylar Killough-Wilhelm will compete on all-around, Amara Cunningham will compete on vault and floor, Geneva Thompson will compete on vault and bars, and Allie Smith will compete on vault. The meet will be streamed live via ESPN3.

Cunningham has dominated on floor this season. She recently was named All-Pac-12 on floor, the first All-Pac-12 honor of her career. Cunningham finished 21st in the nation on floor, the fifth-best finish by a GymDawg in the last 25 years. Cunningham has earned a score of 9.900 or higher six times this year, including each of the last four meets of the regular season. She earned five event titles this season, all on floor, becoming the fourth GymDawg ever to earn at least five floor titles in a single year. On vault, Cunningham has averaged a 9.807, second only to Thompson's on the GymDawgs. She matched her career high with a 9.875 and finished the season with three straight scores of a 9.800 or higher.

Killough-Wilhelm started off the season as the fifth GymDawg freshman ever to compete on all-around in a season opener and first freshman since 2014 to compete on all-around in any meet. That was just the beginning for the freshman: against Arizona, Killough-Wilhelm became the first GymDawg freshman since 2012 to earn multiple event titles in one meet. On bars, she earned a 9.8500 or higher in each of the last four meets to end the regular season. She averaged a 9.808 on bars, second only to Thompson. She was tenth in the Pac-12 in all-around NQS at 39.244, earning all-around scores over 39.000 four times.

Smith had a great 2021 season, improving every meet. Three of her last four routines in the regular season saw her earn scores of 9.800 or higher on vault. She earned back-to-back scores of 9.925 and 9.900 on vault to end the regular season, with the 9.925 score a new career high and earning her the event title. Smith had an NQS of 9.863 on vault, good for 17th in the Pac-12 and behind only Thompson among GymDawgs in vault NQS.

Thompson is competing in her fourth Regionals competition. She won four event titles this year, including one on vault, two on bars, and one all-around. Thompson started the 2021 season off with a 9.900 on vault and followed with a 9.800 or higher in six meets. On bars, Thompson matched her career high early in the season with a score of 9.900. She earned scores of 9.850 or higher in six meets, including in three consecutive meets. In all, Thompson finished 12th in the Pac-12 on both vault and bars with an NQS of 9.875 on vault and 9.881 on bars.
