Bruins Complete First Round of Wyoming Classic, Second Round Suspended

CHANDLER, Ariz. - All but two Bruins completed both rounds of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Monday at the Whirlwind Golf Club, with play suspended due to darkness. As a team, UCLA is tied for 14th at 7-over 583, shooting a 3-over 291 in round one. 

Senior Devon Bling is tied for 24th at 2-under with one hole to go in his second round. With a shotgun start on Monday, Bling made four birdies in his opening 18 on the par-5 17th, second and 12th holes and the par-4 18th to go with only one bogey in a 3-under 69. He is 1-over so far in round two, making a birdie on the par-4 fifth and two bogeys.

A trio of Bruins, senior Eddy Lai and juniors Kengo Aoshima and Bryan Wiyang Teoh are tied for 56th (+3, 147). Lai still has one hole to go, and is 2-over in his second round on a pair of birdies on the par-5 second and par-4 fifth and four bogeys. In his opening round, he made a birdie on the par-3 10th and two bogeys in a 1-over 73.

Aoshima had a great stretch of four birdies in a row and five of six in his opening round, gaining strokes on the par-5 second, par-3 third and par-4 fourth and fifth holes, as well as the par-5 seventh. He added four bogeys and a triple for a 2-over 74. In round two, Aoshima made five birdies on the par-5 17th, second and 12th holes and the par-4 18th and fifth holes to go with six bogeys in a 1-over 73.

Teoh shot a 3-over 75 in the morning on three birdies on the par-4 16th, par-5 second and par-3 sixth to go with four bogeys and a double. He shot an even-par 72 in the afternoon on five birdies on the par-5 17th, second and seventh holes and the par-4 18th and ninth, adding five bogeys. Sophomore Mason Greene (T-95, +8, 152) had a pair of 4-over 76s on Monday, making 14 pars and four bogeys in round one and two birdies (par-5 17th and par-4 11th), two bogeys and two doubles in round two.

Bling and Lai will finish their final holes at 7 a.m., which will be followed by the start of the final round in another shotgun start beginning at 7:30 a.m. Live scoring will be available here.
