Apr 5, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO – USC sophomore opposite hitter Emilia Weske (Potsdam, Germany/Leibniz Gymnasium) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the week of March 29-April 4 the Conference announced on Monday, April 5.

It is the first time in Weske's collegiate career that she has been chosen for the Pac-12's weekly award and the 80th all-time award for the Women of Troy. Washington State sophomore middle blocker Magda Jehlárová was chosen Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week and Arizona State outside hitter Marta Levinska was named Freshman of the Week.

Weske collected 11 kills in back-to-back home matches against Colorado and helped lead the Trojans to two wins over the Buffaloes. In the first meeting, she had 11 kills (4e) on 32 swings to hit .219 to go with two service aces, six digs, and four blocks. Weske had another 11 kills (1e) on just 20 attacks to hit .500 in the second match. She added two blocks with one assist and one dig.

This season, Weske put up 10 matches with double-digit kills and recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs in the season opener at Oregon State. She is second on the team at 2.39 kills per set and 2.87 points per set.

Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Pac-12 began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the 10th year (since 2011) that the Conference has announced separate offensive, defensive, and freshman honorees. Freshman of the week honors are not included in the all-time totals for each institution. Since 2011, USC players have received 23 offensive awards, 11 defensive awards, and 19 freshman honors. In total, USC counts 80 Player of the Week certificates and ranks third all-time in the Pac-12.

Under first-year head coach Brad Keller, USC (7-8, 7-8 Pac-12) concluded the season with four straight wins (at UCLA, at Arizona, vs. Colorado twice) and was competitive in each of its five-set losses to the league's top teams. The Trojans had seven matches cancelled for various reasons including COVID-19 protocols, which was second only to Stanford's total of 12 cancelled contests.
