Seniors Lead USC Women's Golf Efforts In Silverado Showdown Second Round

Apr 6, 2021
Amelia Garvey carded her sixth round of par or better Tuesday.

Allisen Corpuz birdied three of her final four holes to card her team-best 13th round under par at 1-under while fellow senior Amelia Garvey was even today, keeping USC within striking distance after the second round of the Silverado Showdown on Tuesday (April 6) at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, Calif.

The Trojans were one better than Monday, combining for 1-over 290 and are now 5-over 581 heading into the final regular-season round of the season on Wednesday, four strokes back of UCLA and one better than third-place Oregon State.

USC will have a chance Wednesday at its fourth win this season as well as its fifth top 3 finish in six regular-season tournaments.

Corpuz moved into a tie for second at 3-under 141 (70-71), six off the lead, thanks to her big finish with birdies on 15, 17 and 18, helping ease the distaste of a double on 6, her only blemish of the round.

She is after her sixth straight top 4 to start the season. It's already's USC's best start to a season since Candie Kung's impressive seven straight such finishes to start the 2001 season.

Garvey (73-72) and senior Alyaa Abdulghany (72-73) are tied for eighth at 1-over 145. Garvey posted four birdies on the day, two in each nine, for her sixth round of par or better this season. Abdulghany had one birdie against two bogeys today, still in the hunt for her fourth top 10 this year.

Sophomore Alexa Melton is tied for 22nd at 6-over (76-74). She turned at 2-over, posted bogeys on 11 and 12 and erased them with birdies on 16 and 17.

Junior Malia Nam is tied for 41st at 9-over 153 (76-77) and junior Katherine Muzi, playing individually, is tied for 49th at 11-over 155 (75-80).
