Women's Golf Secures Another Top-Five Finish

NAPA VALLEY, Calif. – The Oregon women's golf team secured yet another top-five finish on Wednesday, tying for fourth place at the Silverado Showdown after posting its best score of the week in the final round at Silverado Country Club.
 
The Ducks posted a 5-over 293 across the final 18 holes, improving by five strokes from Tuesday's second round to move up a spot on the leaderboard. Oregon tied with Arizona State for fourth place at 22-over-par, with USC winning the tournament at 2 under.
 
Playing in their final tournament of the spring before postseason play begins, Derek Radley's squad earned their seventh straight top-five finish and 11th in 12 events dating back to last season.
 
No. 13 Oregon was led once again by Briana Chacon, who fired a 2-under 70 on Wednesday to finish 1-over-par for the week. The sophomore placed seventh on the individual leaderboard, her fourth straight top-10 showing this season and sixth of her career.
 
How it Happened: Chacon started her round with a birdie at No. 5, and she added two more at No. 9 and No. 13 to get to 3 under through her first 10 holes. Chacon finished with a birdie, five pars and two bogeys across her final eight holes to post her team-leading seventh par-or-better round of the spring.
 
Fellow sophomore Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen also enjoyed a solid final round in Napa Valley, offsetting four bogeys with four birdies to come in with an even-par 72. Nielsen closed the tournament at 4-over-par to tie for 13th, her second top-15 finish of the season and seventh in 12 career tournaments.
 
Freshman Hsin-Yu (Cynthia) Lu posted a 3-over 75 to finish the week at 9 over and tied for 26th place. Lu was 4 over through 12 holes before going 1 under the rest of the way. Senior Alexis Phadungmartvorakul rounded out the counting scores for the Ducks with a 4-over 76 while recording a team-high five birdies.
 
Sophomore Ching-Tzu Chen – who competed as an individual this week – also finished with a 4-over 76 and gave Oregon three players in the individual top 20 (T20).

Notable: Oregon's 5-over 293 on Wednesday was the third-best score of the day … Nielsen shot par-or-better for the fourth time this season … Chen posted her second top-20 finish of the spring … The Ducks finished the week with 163 total pars, tied for second-most in the field … Phadungmartvorakul was 1 under overall on par-3 holes, tied for second-best among individuals … Nielsen led Oregon with 13 total birdies, tied for third-most in the field … Chacon and Chen each had 38 total pars to lead the team, tied for fifth-most among all players.
