TEMPE – The 27th-ranked Sun Devils men's tennis team (13-6, 2-3 Pac-12) travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on the Utes (15-8, 1-4 Pac-12) this Friday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. MST. It's the final road match of the season for ASU. The regular-season finale is next Saturday in Tempe where the Sun Devils will host the rival Wildcats of Arizona.
ASU heads into the weekend after a 3-4 loss to Stanford and a canceled match against California. The Sun Devils traded shots with the Cardinal throughout the match Friday, but ultimately fell short of the victory. Despite the loss, No. 92 Nathan Ponwith improved his singles record to 12-6 while Andrea Bolla improved to 11-5.
The Utes are 15-8 overall on the season and have posted wins in their last four contests, the most recent being a 4-0 shutout over UC Davis.
Freshman Franco Capalbo leads the squad with 12 singles victories, featuring a three-set defeat over Washington's No. 65 Jack Davis. Capalbo also shines in doubles play and is tied for second-most doubles wins on the season with nine, his partner Geronimo Busleiman holds the team's best with 14 doubles victories.
Friday's match presents one of the final opportunities for the Sun Devils to improve their conference record before heading into the Pac-12 Championships. Following the matchup against Utah, ASU welcomes rivals Arizona to Tempe for the final match of the regular season April 17 at 2:00 p.m. MST.
