Plain Carries No-Hitter Into Seventh In 4-2 Win

Apr 10, 2021

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The #6 Washington Huskies shutdown the Oregon State offense, defeating the Beavers 4-2 to take game two of the four-game series. Gabbie Plain was excellent, not allowing a hit until the seventh inning.

Plain went 19 batters before allowing a hit, with Oregon State going hitless until a single and a home run lead off the seventh with Washington already up 4-0. She retired 16 batters in a row after a first-inning walk, the only other Beaver baserunner on the day. The home run gave Oregon State not only its first runs of the weekend but was the first time any Beaver has advanced as far as second base this weekend.

Offensively, the Huskies took advantage of four leadoff ons in the final five innings to get on the board. Lilly Agan was a big part of things, reaching base in all three of her plate appearances, all leading off innings, and scoring two of Washington's four runs.

Baylee Klingler, Kelley Lynch, and Sami Reynolds had the big hits needed to pick up RBI, while Morganne Flores joined Agan as the only Huskies with multiple hits in the game. Agan, Klingler, and Pat Moore all had steals in the game, with Agan recording her first collegiate multi-steal game.

SCORING
  • Fourth Inning: Two big hits down the rightfield line put the Dawgs in front. Flores started the inning with a double into rightfield. Lynch's single down the line broke the 0-0 tie, scoring Megan Vandegrift, who had pinch ran.
  • Fifth Inning: Klingler, who earlier in the game narrowly missed her 13th home run on a ball caught at the wall in deep left-center, scored Agan on a booming double off the leftfield wall.
  • Seventh Inning: Reynolds ripped a hard ball off the second baseman's glove with two runners in scoring position to double the Husky lead, making it 4-0. Oregon State would hit a two-run homer in the bottom half to make the final score 4-2.
