Golf finishes in sixth at the BYU Cougar Classic

Provo, Utah – The University of Utah Men's Golf team finished in sixth place at the BYU Cougar Classic after shooting 17-under (847). This is the Utes sixth straight top-10 finish in just seven regular season tournaments.

The team started out the tournament by shooing 9-under (279) on the first 18 to place them in a tie for first among the field. The Utes got through 15-16 holes in the first round before they had to stop play due to darkness on Friday night. They were able to finish the last few holes of the second round to shoot 2-over (290), putting them at 7-under par (569) through 36 holes.

In round three, the team shot 10-under (278) to give them a tournament score of 17-under (847). Three Utes finished inside the top-20 as the team shifts their focus to the Pac-12 Championships.

INDIVIDUAL BREAKDOWN
Junior Blake Tomlinson led the team shooting 7-under (209) to tie for ninth among the field. Tomlinson's best round came in the first where he birdied five of the first eight holes to help him shoot 4-under (68). It was the fifth time this season that Tomlinson has finished highest among his teammates.
 
Not far behind Tomlinson was senior Mitchell Schow and Junior Tristan Mandur. Both shot 5-under (211) to finish in a tie for 18th. Schow saved his best round for last when he shot 4-under (68) birding seven holes along the way. Mandur shot 2-under (70) in both rounds one and three to help secure his place in the top-20.
 
Rounding out the team were freshmen Javier Barcos and Jesper von Reedtz. Barcos finished in a tie for 42nd after shooting even par (216), while Reedtz tied for 86th after shooting 9-over (225).

"The greens were firm and fast, which was great preparation for the Pac-12 Championships at Mayacama. Blake had another top-10 finish which was great while Tristan and Mitchell were just outside of that. We don't have a lot of time before Pac-12, so we will need to build on the positives of what we did well this weekend."
