Top-Seed UCLA Downs Cougars, 4-0

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The top-seeded UCLA Bruins captured three singles matches in straight-sets to close out a 4-0 victory over No. 8 Washington State in a quarterfinal match at the 2021 Pac-12 Tennis Championship at the Barnes Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Cougars fall to 14-16 on the season while UCLA improves to 18-3.
The day began with doubles and UCLA jumped right out taking a 6-0 win at No. 2 when Vivian Wolff and Annette Goulak defeated Michaela Bayerlova and Yang Lee. The other two matches were tight as the Bruins clinched the opening point at No. 3 when Elysia Bolton and Vanessa Ong defeated Pang Jittakoat and Fifa Kumhom, 6-4, after the Cougar duo had saved two match points. The No. 1 between was stopped with WUS's Melisa Ates and Hikaru Sato tied 4-4 with Abigail Forbes and Jada Hart.
In singles action, the Bruins won first sets in all six matches. The lead grew to 3-0 as Wolff defeated Savanna Ly-Nguyen 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 and Sasha Vagramov won 10 of the final 12 games to defeat Jittakoat, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. UCLA then clinched the match when Bolton defeated Kumhom, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
The remaining three matches were stopped with UCLA leading in each. Bayerlova was trailing Forbes, 6-2, 3-2 at No. 1, Sato was down 6-4, 4-0 to Hart at No. 2 and Ates was even in the second at 3-3 against Ong, after dropping the first 6-3.
