Baseball Pushes Win Streak to Four After Comeback Victory Over Utah Valley

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah baseball team pushed their win streak to four games after a 10-9 comeback win over the Utah Valley Wolverines on Wednesday night at Smith's Ballpark.
 
The Utes scored one run in the sixth to tie the game at nine and then after a single and a walk to begin the seventh, Kai Roberts singled up the middle to score Jaylon McLaughlin from second giving Utah their first lead of the game.
 
Ian MacIver entered the game in the sixth inning and shut down Utah Valley. He pitching 3.0 innings only allowing one hit to give Utah the chance to complete the comeback and earn their fourth win in a row.
 
Utah Valley had a quick start scoring three runs in the second and third to go up 6-2 early.
 
The Utes battled back with four runs scored in the fourth behind four doubles in the inning. Overall, Utah scored four runs on five hits to tie things up at six.
 
The Wolverines came right back in the top of the fifth with three runs to once again take the lead to go up 9-6. Utah answered once against though led by a Matt Richardson triple to score a run. Next up, McLaughlin singled to score him from third to get back within one.
 
In the sixth, Utah manufactured the tying run with two walks, a single and a sacrifice fly from Shea Kramer.
 
With the game all tied up, MacIver cruised through the seventh to bring Utah back up to bat. After McLaughlin singled up the middle on the first pitch, Jayden Kiernan battled to a full count and drew a walk to move McLaughlin to second bringing Roberts up for his go-ahead RBI.
 
Dustyn Schramm came on in the ninth to earn his first save of the season and Utah's 14th win.
 
Utah had 13 hits on the night with six players having two hits. The Utes had five extra base hits led by Ricahrdson, who had a triple and a double to give him three RBI. Roberts had two RBI.
 
The Utes ended up scoring at least one run in six straight innings from the second to the seventh. It's the third game in a row Utah has scored double-digit runs.
 
The Utes will now carry their four-game winning streak back into Pac-12 play as they host the Oregon Ducks this weekend at Lindquist Field in Ogden, Utah. First pitch is Friday, May 14 at 6 p.m.
