USC Women's Volleyball Signs Transfers Paige Hammons and Sabrina Smith

May 14, 2021

LOS ANGELES – USC women's volleyball has signed graduate transfers Paige Hammons (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) from Florida and Sabrina Smith (Moraga, Calif./Campolindo HS) from UCLA, Trojans' head coach Brad Keller announced on Friday, May 14.

"The additions of Paige and Sabrina are key to our immediate success and will be central to the continued development of our program," said Keller. "They are each accomplished athletes at their positions and at their previous schools. We expect them to arrive and make an impact on our team from day one."

Hammons was a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection (2018, '19) at Florida. She earned AVCA All-Southeast Region honorable mention in 2019 as a junior and was a VolleyballMag.com All-America honorable mention in 2018 as a sophomore. During her second All-SEC campaign, Hammons started all 32 matches and reached double-figure kills 11 times with six double-doubles. She averaged 2.35 kills per set and 2.17 digs per set that year and ranked fourth in the SEC for service aces (0.35 saps). Hammons has played for Team USA's Youth and Junior National Teams and helped the U.S. capture gold at the 2017 U20 Pan American Championships.

In three seasons at UCLA (2017, '19, '20), Smith played in 55 matches and appeared in 174 sets. She amassed 152 kills (0.87 kps) and 132 blocks (0.76 bps). In the recently completed 2020-21 season, she posted career bests of 1.16 kills per set (85 kills) and .395 hitting (15e, 177att) and finished with 48 blocks in the truncated Pac-12 schedule (0.66 bps). Smith did not play in 2018 and utilized a redshirt year.

Under Keller—in his first season—USC (7-8, 7-8 Pac-12) concluded the 2020-21 season with four straight wins (at UCLA, at Arizona, vs. Colorado twice) and was competitive in each of its five-set losses to the league's top teams. The Trojans had seven matches cancelled for various reasons including COVID-19 protocols in the already-truncated Pac-12 season. Senior outside hitter Brooke Botkin (Houston, Texas/Pearland HS) was chosen to the Pac-12 All-Conference Team and received AVCA All-West Region honorable mention.
