2021: Season In Review

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford improved its team score over five straight competitions, highlighted by season-high performances on vault, bars and floor on the way to producing a 195.175 score at Pac-12 Championships. The performance was especially satisfying considering Stanford had four of its meets canceled, competed short-handed on several events and started its regular season one month later than its conference peers.

Rankings and Titles
As a team, Stanford captured two event titles, outperforming San Jose State on vault (March 10) and producing the top score on floor during its session at Pac-12 Championships (March 20).

Individually, Cardinal gymnasts collected 14 individual event crowns, with Kyla Bryant and Chloe Widner accounting for six apiece while Morgan Hoang and Grace Garcia each tallied one.

Stanford finished the 2021 season ranked No. 52 nationally. The Cardinal also concluded the season ranked No. 44 on floor, No. 51 on vault, No. 52 on bars and No. 54 on beam.

Bryant Becomes Pac-12 Champion
Kyla Bryant produced two meet-high marks on the way to being crowned Pac-12 champion on floor, highlighting Stanford's performance during the morning session of the Pac-12 Championships.

Bryant came away with season highs on floor (9.950) and all-around (39.475), representing the top marks in the morning prior to Saturday's evening session that featured Arizona State, California, UCLA and Utah. Bryant's 9.950 on floor would eventually stand up, making her the Cardinal's first Pac-12 champion since Elizabeth Price in 2018.

Meanwhile, Stanford finished with a season-best 195.175, outpacing Washington (194.400) but checking in behind Oregon State (195.625) and Arizona (195.400) to take third overall in the session. The Cardinal delivered season-high performances when it counted most, establishing top marks on vault (48.825), bars (48.800) and floor (49.350).

A 2020 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Second Team All-American on floor, Bryant is also a two-time All-Pac-12 selection (2019-20). Bryant was also a nominee for the American Athletic, Inc. (AAI) Award, presented to the most outstanding collegiate senior female gymnast in the country.

Notable Performances
In addition to Bryant's successful season, the Cardinal featured several other notable individual efforts.

Grace Garcia delivered a season-best 9.875 to capture an event title on bars, fittingly capping a memorable Senior Day against Oregon State on March 14.

Chloe Widner shined in Stanford's March 7 meet against Boise State and Washington, securing event titles in the all-around (39.275), vault (9.875) and beam (9.850), resulting in a Pac-12 Coaches' Choice of the Week award.

Amanda Zeng competed in all five meets as a rookie while Sandra Jessen and Sze En Tan also made their debuts.

Eight Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll Selections 
Stanford was well represented with eight student-athletes qualifying for the 2021 Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll.

Earning recognition were Madison Brunette, Jade Chrobok, Rachael Flam, Grace Garcia, Morgan Hoang, Eve Micco, Addie Stonecipher and Chloe Widner.

The Winter Academic Honor Roll includes student-athletes who participated in the conference-sponsored sports of men's and women's basketball, women's gymnastics, men's and women's swimming and diving and wrestling. Any student-athlete with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or above who has served at least one year in residence at Stanford is eligible for the recognition.
