Oregon State Downed In Game Two Of Series

STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon State was unable to overcome three early runs by No. 9 Stanford in a 5-0 loss to the Cardinal Friday night at Sunken Diamond.
The Cardinal scored a solo run in the first and two more in the third en route to the series win. The Beavers, meanwhile, managed four hits off four Stanford pitchers in the loss. Troy Claunch singled in the fifth inning to extend his hit streak to 16 games, while Joe Casey and Justin Boyd both doubled.
Jake Dukart also singled for the Beavers, doing so in the second, but was retired when Stanford turned a double play.
Will Frisch, in relief of OSU (33-22, 15-14) starter Cooper Hjerpe, pitched three scoreless frames, limiting the Cardinal to two hits and two walks. He struck out three.
Hjerpe picked up the loss, dropping to 3-6 on the year. He allowed three hits and three runs – two earned – with three strikeouts in three innings.
Stanford (33-13, 17-9) starter Zach Grech picked up the win to improve to 5-5 on the year. He limited the Beavers to two hits and a walk with one strikeout in four scoreless innings.

- Troy Claunch has 25 hits during his 16-game hit streak.
- Wade Meckler saw his hit streak snapped at 10 games. He did, however, draw a walk and has now reached base safely in 18 consecutive games. Claunch is right behind at 17 straight.
