Cruse, Yanez Named NFCA All-Americans

Jun 2, 2021

Haley Cruse and Brooke Yanez both earned third-team All-America honors following stellar 2021 seasons, the NFCA announced on Wednesday. Cruse and Yanez are the 22nd and 23rd All-Americans in program history while this marks the 10th time that Oregon has had multiple players earn All-America recognition.

Yanez turned in one of the best seasons in program history by a pitcher, striking out the third-most batters in a year in UO history with 268 while leading the Pac-12 and sitting in 13th nationally with 10.29 strikeouts per seven innings. She went 22-6 with a 2.11 ERA over 182.1 innings pitched while tossing 14 complete games with seven shutouts.

The Ventura, Calif. native was at her best down the stretch, going 6-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 77 strikeouts to just 11 walks while posting three shutouts over her last 10 appearances. Yanez earned Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors following each of the final two weeks of the regular season, then put up big numbers in the postseason, going 2-1 with a 2.30 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 21.1 innings at NCAA Regionals.

Cruse led the team with a .389 batting average while leading the Ducks in six other major offensive categories. She also sits in the top 10 of the Pac-12 in six major categories offensively (AVG, R, H, 2B, OBP, SB). The Ducks' leadoff batter finished the year with a .515 on-base percentage when leading off an inning and reached base in 50 of her 56 games played while also hitting four leadoff home runs.

The five-year star at Oregon finished her career as the only player in school history to lead the team in hitting four straight seasons, and will leave Oregon in the career top 10 of four different offensive categories. Cruse ranks fifth in batting average (.378) and runs scored (156), while sitting in seventh with 63 stolen bases and tied for eighth with 38 doubles.
