Jun 16, 2021

BERKELEY – Leah Schmidt, an outside hitter previously at Utah, has signed with California for the upcoming fall 2021 season, Cal volleyball head coach Sam Crosson announced Wednesday. Schmidt, a 6-foot-3 product of Westlake, Ohio, has spent the last two seasons with the Utes.

"We are excited and looking forward to the addition of Leah to our roster for the upcoming 2021 season," Crosson said. "She has experience playing at the PAC 12 level and her height, skill sets and volleyball IQ will be a great addition to our team. Leah has the ability to score points from both the left and right sides as an attacker and her blocking ability and net play will enhance our physical presence at the net defensively. She is a high character person who has the values and work ethic that we look for in all of our recruits and we look forward to her upcoming arrival to campus."

Schmidt saw the court in 19 matches at Utah, playing in 39 sets. She recorded 22 kills, including a career-best 10 finishes on .316 hitting against Utah State on Sept. 3, 2019.

During the 2020-21 season, Schmidt made appearances in nine matches and recorded three service aces with two digs against the Bears at Haas Pavilion on Jan. 29.

Prior to Utah, Schmidt was named First Team All-Conference three times and First Team All-District two times over her high school career. She totaled 1,143 kills, 161 blocks, 659 digs and 143 aces while lettering all four years at Westlake High School.
