Jun 16, 2021

STANFORD, Calif. – Continuing to earn accolades following its Pac-12 championship campaign, Stanford men's tennis earned four regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Paul Goldstein was honored as the Wilson ITA Coach of the Year, while Axel Geller was the Northwest's Senior Player of the Year. Recognized for his work both on and off the court, Timothy Sah earned both the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award and the ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award.

Goldstein led Stanford to its first Pac-12 championship since 2015, and first outright title since 2003. Stanford won 11 dual matches, including a 6-1 mark in Pac-12 play, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Goldstein was also the ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.

Geller was a first team All-Pac-12 recipient for the second time in his career, and went 6-6 on the season in singles and 8-5 in doubles. He tallied three singles wins against ranked foes, and posted five wins over Pac-12 opponents. The regional honor is he second for Geller, who was also the ITA Northwest Region Player to Watch in 2019.

Sah went 8-5 in singles and 9-4 in doubles, including back-to-back match-clinching wins over UCLA and USC on April 9 and 10. Sah is an active member of SAAC and participated in the 2019 Rubenstein-Bing Student-Athletes in Civic Engagement (ACE) Program. A two-year captain, Sah has been a mainstay on the Pac-12 and ITA Academic honor rolls.

All three are eligible for the national awards in their categories, which will be announced on Monday, June 21.
