Jun 25, 2021

EDIT: As of 7/14/2021, Kelsey White is not competing due to contracting Covid-19.

On Thursday morning, South Africa announced their inaugural women's water polo Olympic team for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where former Sun Devil Kelsey White is competing.

White is a Johannesburg, South Africa native who competed as a Sun Devil from 2009-2012 and recorded 89 career goals and 63 assists during her time in the Maroon and Gold. Out of the pool, she received her degree in Mass Media Communications.

"For me, in South Africa water polo was never an Olympic sport in terms of our country going; it just was never in the cards for South Africa. It's the first year in history for South African water polo in the Olympics, so I am really excited for that."

White has competed for South Africa for 11 years, and this is her first Olympics after dedicating the last 18 years of her life to the sport.

She is the fourth player under Todd Clapper to compete in this year's Olympic Games. South Africa is slated to compete in Group A starting July 24 with Spain, Canada, Australia, and the Netherlands where the top four teams will advance to the quarterfinals.
