Olympic Softball Begins Tuesday With Five Huskies Competing

Jul 19, 2021

At long last, the 2020 Olympic Games have arrived, and with them comes the return of the sport of softball to the world's biggest athletic stage.

Five Huskies will compete in Tokyo starting this week – Ali Aguilar (USA), Gabbie Plain (Australia), Victoria Hayward (Canada), Danielle Lawrie (Canada), and Jenn Salling (Canada). Additionally, Washington head coach Heather Tarr is serving as assistant for the American team.

With five, Washington will have more former players competing in softball in Tokyo than any other college program. Arizona, UCLA and Hawaii have four each.

The time in Tokyo is 16 hours ahead of Pacific Daylight Time, the current time zone in Seattle. So, while the softball competition officially begins Wednesday, the first games will be played on Tuesday, July 20, Seattle time. The competition wraps up with the gold-medal game, at Yokohama Stadium (pictured) on July 27.
