ACWPC All-Academic Awards Go To 17 Bears

The Cal women's water polo team had a whopping 17 student-athletes earn 2021 ACWPC All-Academic Awards, led by a fourth selection for recent graduate Claire Sonne.

Sonne earned her fourth consecutive outstanding recognition for her work in the classroom, the highest academic honor handed out by the ACWPC. It is given to student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.71 or higher. Sonne received her degree in Gender & Women's Studies with a cumulative GPA of 3.77.

Rising junior Sydney Hammill also received outstanding academic recognition for the second straight year, and rising junior Ruby Swadling and rising sophomore Caroline Christl were also placed in the outstanding category.

Five Golden Bears garnered superior academic recognition for having a cumulative GPA between 3.41 ad 3.70 – rising seniors Kitty Lynn Joustra and Cynthia Mulder, rising junior Isabel Williams and rising sophomores Maddie DeMattia and Mara Loughlin. It marks the third consecutive superior nod for Joustra, who is currently playing for The Netherlands at the Tokyo Olympics. Mulder has secured the honor for the second time.

Recent graduate Brigit Mulder and super senior Georgia Gilmore highlight eight Cal student-athletes who locked up excellent academic recognition for a cumulative GPA between 3.20 and 4.20. Both Brigit Mulder and Gilmore earned ACWPC All-Academic recognition for the third time while 2021 graduate Cassidy Ball took the honor for the second time. Also securing excellent status were rising senior Carson Broad, rising juniors Cecily Turner, Helena Batey and Shea Salvino as well as rising sophomore Caitlin Mary Parker Allen.

The Bears were also acknowledged with a team All-Academic Award for a cumulative GPA of 3.28.
