Hurta Named To Third CoSIDA Academic All-America Team
BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field alum Sage Hurta was named to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team Thursday morning.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America program is the longest-running and most prestigious academic and athletic award for student-athletes. All nominees must have a GPA of 3.30 or above and be a starter or important reserve in their respected sport.
This is Hurta's third such honor, making her the seventh CU Buff to earn three Academic All-America honors. She joins Jenny Barringer and Ben Saarel as the only members of the cross country and track and field program to accomplish this feat.
Hurta graduated with a 3.983 GPA in chemical and biological engineering. She was named the Pac-12 Tom Hansen Medal Winner for the CU women and was the 2021 NCAA mile national champion. She is just the second Buff to leave CU with a national title as an individual, relay member and team. In her five years, Hurta only missed earning an A in a class once. Hurta was named the USTFCCCA Indoor Women's Track National Scholar Athlete of the Year.
She earned her first Academic All-America honor in 2019 when she was a member of the NCAA Cross Country Championship team. She went on to earn am Academic All-America second-team honor. In 2020, Hurta became just the second CU woman to earn her fourth All-America honor in cross country, joining Shayala Kipp as the only women to do so. This propelled her to a Academic All-America First Team honor, which she repeated this year with an NCAA Championship, Pac-12 Championship and berth to the USATF Olympic Trials.
USC's Anna Cockrell was named the Academic All-America Team Member of the Year for the women while Arizona State's Turner Washington took the men's title. In total, six men from the Pac-12 were on the three teams, while eight women were named including four on the first team.
