Volleyball’s Red-Blue Match Ends in Draw

Aug 21, 2021

TUCSON, Ariz. – Team Red and Team Blue both won two sets during Arizona Volleyball's Red-Blue scrimmage on Saturday.

"It was great to have the fans back and have the team play in front of them," said head coach Dave Rubio. "Our littles are terrific, and our ball control defensively was really good. Puk Stubbe is a great player and she just needs to adjust to our system. The player that stood out to me is Jaelyn Hodge. She has worked incredibly hard in the offseason, and we have someone really special in her. I think we have great potential this year as a team."

Team Red took the first set 25-19. Sofia Maldonado Diaz and Puk Stubbe scored 11 of the 25 points for Red. On Team Blue, Dilara Gedikoglu and Nicole Briggs each had three kills.

Team Blue won the second set 25-19, tying the match 1-1. Gedikoglu led Team Blue with four kills and Nicole Briggs had three block assists.

Set 4 went to Team Red who won 25-20, tying the scrimmage at two sets each. Hodge has seven kills and Maldonado Diaz had six kills, leading Team Red to win the set.

The Red-Blue match was the first chance for fans to see the 2021 squad in action before the season-opener next weekend, Aug. 27-28 when Arizona hosts the Cactus Classic.
