Cal star Haley Giavara will play in doubles and singles in the All-American in October.

BERKELEY – California women's tennis stars Haley Giavara and Valentina Ivanov earned berths in the ITA All-American Championships, the ITA announced Tuesday, with freshman Jessica Alsola joining the duo in the tournament. The three Golden Bears along with senior Julia Rosenqvist also earned ITA rankings on Tuesday.

Ranked 14th in the ITA Doubles Preseason poll, the pair of Ivanov and Giavara is in a field of 32 for the All-American, which is scheduled for Oct. 4-10 in Charleston, South Carolina. The ITA named Giavara, Ivanov and Alsola to the All-American qualifying singles field as well, and Giavara is also the first alternate for the singles main draw.

In the ITA Singles Preseason Rankings, Giavara is 17th, Rosenqvist is 106th and Ivanov is 119th. Alsola – who reached the singles final of the recent Olympic Club Wildcard Challenge in San Francisco – is ranked seventh in the ITA Newcomers poll.

"Seeing the Bears well represented in the preseason national rankings and All-American selections has been a tradition in our program," said Amanda Augustus, Cal's interim director of tennis. "We didn't get to compete last fall, so we're looking forward to having a fall and spring season and building off the success our young team had last spring. We're excited to see the debut of our new Bears and get the ball rolling."

Last season ended with Giavara ranked 27th in singles and the duo of Giavara and Ivanov ranked 50th in doubles.

Cal opens the 2021-22 season with the Cal Fall Invitational slated for Sept. 24-26 at the Hellman Tennis Complex and the Channing Tennis Courts. The annual tournament will mark the Golden Bears' lone appearance at home this fall.
