Women's Golf Opens 2021-22 at Prestigious ANNIKA Event

Sep 12, 2021

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Fresh off another deep postseason run during the 2021 NCAA Championships, No. 13 Arizona Women's Golf will open the 2021-22 season at the prestigious ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Monday, Sept. 13. The event, named after former Wildcat and LPGA Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam, will have a loaded field that includes 10 teams ranked in the top 20 of the WGCA preseason poll, including seven of the top ten-ranked teams.

"This is a special event for our program to participate in as its namesake, Annika Sorenstam, means so much to Arizona Women's Golf and professional golf," said head coach Laura Ianello. "The field is the best of the best of college golf, and I am excited to see our team compete in the first event of the season. The ANNIKA will be a great opening act for our premier Fall schedule of events."

The Wildcats have five returners from last season's roster that reached the semifinals of match play at the NCAA Championships for a third consecutive season. Arizona added four newcomers for 2021-22 in a graduate transfer and a trio of decorated European prep golfers.

Arizona last played in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the Royal Golf Club in 2019 when it finished in sixth place as Vivian Hou led all Wildcats with an 8-under par performance and a second-place finish.
