Hou's Strong Opener Positions Wildcats In Middle of Pack

Sep 13, 2021

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Fifth-year senior Yu-Sang Hou used her steady experience to lead the Wildcats in the first round of the prestigious ANNIKA Intercollegiate by cracking the top three of the leaderboards with her 4-under round of 68. Arizona finished Monday's opening round 4-over par as a team and in 10th place.

"It was great to see Yu-Sang pick up where she left off last season and start this year with a great round," said head coach Laura Ianello. "Lilas was very strong as well at even par in her very first collegiate round of golf, and Vivian was a steadying force for us as well. We opened our round on the back nine holes and posted our best scores before making the turn. Our team will continue to improve and make some adjustments on the front nine holes for tomorrow."

Freshman Lilas Pinthier finished her first collegiate round in 18th place at even par after making three birdie putts on Monday. She ended the first round in a tie for third among all players in par-4 scoring.

Yu-Sang Hou's strong round of 68 on Monday was the lowest round in a season-opening tournament in her career.

Arizona returns to the Royal Golf Club for the second round of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning as part of a nine-team pack separated by seven strokes.
