Women's Golf Finishes Final Round at ANNIKA Intercollegiate

LAKE ELMO, Minn. – Freshman Caroline Canales shot a 1-over 73 to lead the UCLA women's golf team on the third and final day of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at The Royal Club in Minnesota.
 
As a team, UCLA (+18, 882) finished in 10th place at the season-opening event. South Carolina (-14, 850) won the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and was followed by Duke (-7, 857) and Wake Forest (-5, 859).
 
Canales finished in a tie for 25th at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate (+3, 219) in her first collegiate event. She made three birdies on Wednesday and registered four bogeys. Canales scored a birdie on the par-4 third hole, par-4 13th hole and par-5 18th hole.
 
Junior Emma Spitz and sophomore Ty Akabane each shot a 2-over 74 on Wednesday, finishing tied for 28th in the tournament. Freshman Zoe Antoinette Campos shot a 4-over 76, and senior Simar Singh finished at 9-over 81 in the third day of action.
 
Spitz (+2, 220) scored two birdies and four bogeys on Wednesday. She made a birdie on the par-4 13th hole and the par-4 15th hole. She led the Bruins in round two on Tuesday, shooting 1-over 73.
 
Akabana (+2, 220) made two birdies and four bogeys on the final day of the tournament. She scored a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole and the par-5 ninth hole.
 
Campos (+8, 224) finished in a tie for 41st place at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. She finished with four bogeys on the final day of action.
 
Singh (+20, 236) finished in a tie for 58th place after three days of action. She made two birdies, four bogeys and three doubles on Wednesday. Singh scored a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole and the par-4 15th hole.
 
UCLA will return to action at the Molly Invitational in Seaside, Calif. on Sept. 27-28. The two-day event will take place at Bayonet Black and Horse.
