Sun Devil Men's Golf Has Quick Turnaround For Illini Invitational

Senior Cameron Sisk won the individual title at the 2021 Maridoe Collegiate Invitational (Sept.13-15)

The Sun Devil men's golf team continues its travel-heavy fall season Friday-Sunday (Sept. 17-19) at the 2021 OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club (par 70/7,310 yards). This will be a quick turnaround for the Sun Devils (along with Texas and Baylor) as they traveled to Olympia Fields after playing in Texas Wednesday evening to compete in the 15-team/81-player field in Illinois with an 8 a.m. tee time Friday.

COURSE HISTORY
Hosted by Illinois, Olympia Fields Country Club is a prestigious course hosting many events including the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Open, PGA Championships and more. With a par of 70, the course will give the teams a 7,300+ yard challenge. Arizona State had All-America senior Niklas Lemke win medalist honors with a 1-over 211 back in 2006. The Sun Devils also took the win as a team back in 2009 with a 30-over 870, beating then No.1 Stanford.

 

THE SCHOOLS
The Sun Devils will be playing against many top five teams including defending NCAA champion Pepperdine and Oklahoma State. Other teams include Alabama, Arizona, Baylor, California, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Purdue, Stanford and Texas.

RANKINGS STUFF
The Sun Devils are ranked fifth in the Sept. 17 Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll. Other teams in the field ranked include Oklahoma State (No. 1), Pepperdine (No. 3), Texas (No. 4), North Carolina (No. 6), Illinois (12), Floridia State (16), Stanford (19), Florida (20)

THE MAUI JIM INTERCOLLEGIATE (SEPT. 10-12)
ASU had three players compete in the Maui Jim Intercollegiate last weekend at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale. David Puig tied for third with a 15-under 195 (63-66-66) as J.M Butler of Auburn earned the title with a 17-under 193 (66-64-63). Freshman Kiko Coelho  shot a 4-under 206 (72-65-69) and tied for 37th while Gabriel Salvanera went 73-70-73 and tied for 74th at 6-over 216.

THE MARIDOE INVITATIONAL (SEPT. 13-15)
ASU compete in the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational Monday-Wednesday this week. Cameron Sisk took the individual title with 7-under par (70-66-73), while Ryggs Johnston tied for 11th with 1-over par 217 (74-71-72). Mason Andersen tied for 16th with a 2-over par 218 (73-72-73). Freshman Preston Summerhays tied for 37th with 10-over-226 (79-75-72) while freshman Josele Ballester tied for 44th with 12-over 228 (77-73-78).
