MALIBU, Calif. - Stanford picked another win on Saturday, as the No. 3 Cardinal held off a late comeback from No. 10 Pepperdine, winning 11-9 in Southern California. The victory pushes Stanford to 9-0 on the year following its second top-10 win of the year.

Stanford is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 22, hosting Long Beach State at Avery Aquatic Center.

After the Waves grabbed the early 1-0 lead, Stanford responded with four straight goals spanning into the second quarter. The Cardinal shared the wealth all afternoon as each of Stanford's first five goals came from different scorers.

The visiting Cardinal held Pepperdine at arms length the majority of the game, scoring just enough on offense and using a combination of aggressive defense with some impressive saves by Nolan Krutonog between the pipes to keep the Waves at bay.

Up 5-3 at halftime, Stanford sealed the victory in the third period, exploding for five goals and holding Pepperdine to only one. Stanford was especially dangerous on the break, pushing the pace to extend its lead.

The Cardinal was inches away from busting the game wide open several times, but hit the post on six different shots. Stanford had plenty of powerplay opportunities and converted five times. Both Tyler Abramson and Beck Jurasius drew four exclusions.

The Waves mounted a late rally with five goals in the final period, but it wasn't enough to catch the Cardinal. 10 of Stanford's goals were assisted on the afternoon.
