Sep 20, 2021

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - After taking a tough loss in the opening round of singles, freshman Colton Smith came back and won the consolation bracket in his first fall tournament as a Wildcat. In doubles, the pair of Smith and senior Jonas Ziverts made it to the semifinals of the main draw.

In singles, Smith would best the first three opponents in the Back Draw in straight sets, which included a ranked win against Arizona State's No. 52 Fabien Salle. During the finals, Smith won a clutch tiebreaker set to win the consolation bracket. The doubles pair found success early in the tournament with two straight 8-5 wins to open doubles play, including one ranked win over the No. 24 doubles team. In the semifinals, the pair would lose to the eventual tournament winners Kikuchi and Overbeck with an 8-6 final score.
