Utes Off to the Semifinals at the ITA Regionals

PROVO, Utah – The Utah Men's Tennis squad finished up another successful day at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships at BYU. The Ute doubles team qualified for the semifinals, and both singles competitors moved to the semifinals round of the tournament.
 
The day started with doubles matches, where teams faced each other to secure a semifinal spot. Utah 4th-seeded duo Francisco Bastias/Bruno Caula downed the Montana State duo of Brad Buckland and Marcos Zelverm 8-5 and moved on to the semifinals for doubles set to take place tomorrow, at 9 a.m. at BYU.
 
Single's play was also a successful run for the Utes. In the round of 16, No. 2 Franco Capalbo downed his opponent Tristan Sarap from Weber State 6-2, 6-2. Following Capalbo's victory, No. 8 Bastias knocked out the 11th -seeded Eban Straker-Meads of Northern Arizona, 6-1, 7-5.
 
As the tournament moved on to the quarterfinals round, the Utah men continued to show strength and skill. Eight-Seed Bastias once more defeated his opponent, eliminating 31st-seed Robert Baylon of Air Force, 6-3,6-2.
 
Second-Seed Capalbo battled with fifth-seed Jack Barnett of BYU in the quarterfinals. Capalbo came away with the win by a score of 7-5, 7-5.
