Huang, Goncharova Advance to Semifinals at Cal Fall Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. – The Utah women's tennis team continued to succeed on day two of the Cal Fall Invitational. The Utah duo of Linda Huang and Anastasia Goncharova advanced to their singles draw semifinals.
 
Coming off a huge win last night over Valentina Ivanov, Huang continued her successful tournament. In the quarterfinals, Huang matched up against another Cal Bear, Makenna Thiel. Huang defeated Thiel, 6-4, 6-2, advancing to the semifinals.
 
Goncharova matched up with Gabriela Tevez of Saint Mary's in her quarterfinals match. Goncharova, the second-seed in the draw, had a tough battle in set one. She came away with a 7-5 victory. Goncharova took set two, 6-2, claiming her spot in the semifinals.
 
Utah's duo was looking to advance to the semifinals in the blue draw. Huang and Goncharova matched up with Arizona State's Cali Jankowski and Domenka Turkovic. The quarterfinals match was a back and forth battle, but the Utah duo dropped the match in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7). 
 
The Utes return to the courts tomorrow for the semifinals of the Blue and Gold Singles Draws. The finals will be held on Sunday afternoon.
