Sep 27, 2021

SAN DIEGO – The Aztec men's soccer program earned the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award for the team's performance in the classroom in the 2020-21 academic year.

San Diego State's 2020-21 roster had a composite grade point average of 3.23 to earn the program's fifth United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award and first since 2018. The Aztecs also earned the award in 2010, 2013 and 2016.

"Our main mission is to prepare these young men for life after college and academic accolades are a great barometer to show that our mission is moving forward," Head coach Ryan Hopkins said.

Four Aztecs were named to the 2021 Pac-12 Winter Academic Honor Roll last season: Arturo Chavez (business administration), Tetsuya Kadono (marketing), Laukoa Santos (business administration) and Esteban Zepeda (business administration).

College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2020-21 academic year.

A total of 602 soccer teams (220 men, 382 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 academic year.
