Beavers Host UCLA and San Diego State to Open Pac-12 Action

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's soccer team is set to host UCLA on Thursday at 6 p.m. and San Diego State on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lorenz Field in Corvallis, Ore. Thursday's match will be available to watch on the Pac-12 Networks and Sunday's match will be available on live stream. Tickets are available for both games, ranging from $4-$6. 
 
Last Time Out 
The Beavers hosted UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 21, tying with the Gauchos 1-1 after double overtime. In the third minute of play, UCSB's goalkeeper bounced one off his own defender for an own goal that put the Beavers on the board. Oregon State held a 1-0 lead over USCB for 73 minutes, before the Gauchos tied the score and pushed the game to overtime.
 
Last Time Against UCLA
Oregon State met with UCLA twice during the 2020-21 season. Hosting the Bruins on Feb. 27, Oregon State posted a 2-1 victory. Sofiane Djeffal found the net in the 73rd minute of action. In the 84th minute, Javier Armas scored the game winner for the Beavers with an assist from Joe Hafferty. On April 2, the Beavers traveled to Los Angeles, Calif. for a second battle with UCLA. OSU fell to the Bruins, 2-1. Gloire Amanda scored the Beavers' sole goal in the 77th minute of action and was assisted by Hafferty. Historically, Oregon State is 9-35-3 against UCLA. 
 
Scouting UCLA 
UCLA is 6-2 (2-0 Pac-12). Opening the season with a 2-1 loss to Lipscomb, the Bruins bounced back to pick up a 2-1 overtime victory over San Francisco (Aug. 29) as well as shutouts against UC Irvine (Sept. 3) and CSUN (Sept. 6). In Pac-12 play, UCLA notched home victories over Stanford (Sept. 16) and California (Sept. 19). The Bruins are coming off of a 2-1 win over non-conference opponent UC Riverside. 
 
The Bruins' leading scorer is sophomore Tommy Silva, who has found the net for four goals, three of which are game-winners. Silva also has one assist and five shots on goal out of seven shots taken. Five Bruins have notched two assists each. In goal, Justin Garces has clocked 703:06 minutes, tallying 14 saves and six goals allowed. UCLA marks 14 goals on the season compared to six scored by opponents.
 
Last spring, UCLA went 3-7-2 (2-6-2 Pac-12), opening the season with a 3-0 shutout against San Francisco before falling to Loyola Marymount. The Bruins went on a four-match loss streak from Feb. 27 to Mar. 20, falling to Oregon State, Stanford, Washington, and California. UCLA posted ties against San Diego State on Feb. 20 (1-1) and Mar. 24 (2-2). The Bruins closed out the season with a 4-3 double overtime win over California on April 17.
 
Last Time Against San Diego State
Oregon State met with UCLA twice during the 2020-21 season, shutting out the Aztecs on both occasions. On Mar. 20, the Beavers hosted SDSU, posting a 5-0 victory over the Aztecs with goals from Amanda, Tsiki Ntsabeleng, Gael Gibert, and Armas. On the road, OSU earned a 4-0 victory, with Djeffal, Amanda, and Tyrone Mondi scoring for the Beavers. OSU's all-time series record against San Diego State is 19-11-3.
 
Scouting San Diego State
San Diego State is 6-0-2 (2-0-0 Pac-12). The Aztecs opened the season with shutouts against Point Loma (Aug. 20) and CSUN (Aug. 26) before posting double overtime draws on the road with No. 17 Loyola Marymount (Aug. 30) and Cal Poly (Sept. 3). From Sept. 10 and Sept. 24, San Diego State has gone on a five-match home win-streak, shutting out UC Davis, CS Bakersfield, Cal, No. 23 Stanford in double overtime, and Gonzaga. Prior to their match with Oregon State, the Aztecs will challenge Washington on Sept. 30. 
 
The Aztecs' leading scorer is sophomore Andre Ochoa, who has four goals on the season and leads in the shots on goal category with seven out of fourteen taken. Ochoa earned the game winner in San Diego State's victory over CSUN on Aug. 26. Leading in the assists category is Tevenn Roux, who has three. Following Roux with two assists each are freshman Alex Hjælmof and sophomore Iñigo Villaldea. Between the pipes, Jacob Castro has clocked 771:02 minutes and has posted 27 saves, only allowing one goal. San Diego has made ten goals compared to one by opponents. 
 
Last spring, San Diego State wentt 1-7-2 (1-7-2 Pac-12), opening the season with a 1-1 double overtime draw at UCLA. From Feb. 27 to Mar. 20, the Aztecs fell to No. 4 Stanford in overtime, No. 8 Washington in double overtime, Cal, and No. 4 Oregon State. The Aztecs notched a 2-2 double overtime draw against UCLA before earning their sole win of the season with a 2-0 shutout at home against No. 4 Washington. San Diego State closed out the season with losses to No. 6 Stanford, Cal, and No. 19 Oregon State.
