No. 3 UCLA Defeats Navy, 13-5

LOS ANGELES -- No. 3 UCLA Bruins (13-1, 0-0 MPSF) led wire-to-wire to post a 13-5 win over Navy (6-9, 1-1 CWPA) on Saturday evening at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.

With the win over the Midshipmen, UCLA improved to 17-0 in the series history.

Sophomore Tanner Pulice paced the Bruin attack with four points (two goals and two assists). Freshman Eli Liechty and sophomore Hayden Nightingale also scored two goals for the Bruins. A total of 10 different Bruins scored against Navy. Sophomore Garret Griggs got the start in the cage and played the first half, registering five saves while allowing three scores. Redshirt sophomore Chase Honaker played the second half in goal and tallied four saves (one of which was on a penalty) while surrendering two goals.

PERIOD ONE
> The Bruins won the opening period, 5-1.
> Giorgio Alessandria (PP - 7:21), Pulice (6:38) and Gabe Discipulo (4:21) put the Bruins up 3-0.
> After a score by Navy, Pulice (0:31) and Chase Dodd (0:01) provided the other two goals for UCLA in the opening frame.
 
PERIOD TWO
> The Bruins won the second period, 5-2, to take a 10-3 lead into the break.
> After Navy scored the first goal of the second quarter, the Bruins reeled off three straight, which included a power play goal by Nightingale (5:22), a goal from the front court by Tommy Gruwell (3:15) and a score on a lob shot by Nicolas Saveljic (2:31).
> Nightingale scored his second (1:06) and sophomore Makoto Kenney found the back of the net for his first score (0:01) just before the buzzer.
 
PERIOD THREE
> The Bruins won the third period 1-0.
> Redshirt sophomore Jack Larsen scored the only goal of the quarter with just 0:48 left in the period.
 
PERIOD FOUR
> Both teams played to a 2-2 draw in the fourth period to provide the 13-5 final.
> Liechty scored both of the goals for UCLA from two meters (5:20 and 4:09).

UP NEXT
The Bruins will open MPSF action next week when they host No. 4 Stanford on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1:00 p.m. PT at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.
